After being knocked back in his approach for Aston Villa striker Cameron Archer the Deepdale boss is anticipating a quiet finish to this summer’s business.

The England Under 21 international — now linked with a switch to rivals Burnley — made 20 appearances for the Lilywhites last term, scoring seven times in the Championship, including April's winner in the derby at home to Blackpool.

Asked if he was expecting a busy conclusion, he said: "I don't know, I couldn't tell you. It's still quiet. I think if you look at the market there's not much going on. Do I believe there's going to be a bit more of an exciting two/three days, or 24 hours, whether that's us or somebody else? Yes, I do.

"I think it's going to be hectic. Hopefully we're not privy to that and I can sit on the couch with a cup of tea and watch it all come through, but if there's something we can do we'll do it. At this moment in time there's nothing out there for us to get."

Lowe would like a couple of new faces to compliment his group in an ideal world, but he remains relaxed and realistic about the club's situation in the market.

"We've got targets that we'd like to bring in, whether we can do anything remains to be seen," said Lowe. "I'm trying to take it as it comes.

"There's probably a bit of noise around why we haven't signed a striker or a right wing back, but we can't just go out and sign anyone.

"We can't wave a magic wand and they just turn up, it just doesn't work like that. We'd love two more bodies in the door, but we'll have to see what's available to get. I'm quite relaxed about it."

The future of last season's leading scorer Emil Riis continues to be enshrouded in uncertainty, with the striker still reportedly high up on Middlesbrough's agenda.

The 24-year-old Dane found the net 20 times last season, scoring twice on the final day to blunt Boro's hopes of a play-off finish, but he's yet to get off the mark this time around and was dropped to the bench for games against Luton Town, Rotherham United and Watford.

Lowe, 43, reiterated his previous stance when stating that nobody would be leaving unless the fee was right. And, even then, he would be reluctant to lose players if the club didn't have replacements lined up.

He said: "It's definitely not going to be the 'ins' that are rushing, but if it's the 'outs', we just don't know. We've just got to make sure that we've got all our ducks in a row just in case anything happens.

"We haven't had any enquiries. There have been no concrete offers. I'll be reluctant to let anyone leave unless it's for the right price.

"And there'll be no-one going out of the door unless I can replace them, it's as simple as that. If I can't replace them, whatever the money involved is, then they won't be leaving."
