Preston North End defender says previous defeat inspired them to victory over Luton Town this time around

The last time North End travelled to Kenilworth Road, prior to Saturday, they were beaten 4-0 and refunded the travelling fans.

This time around, it was a much different story. From a calamity to a corker, as Brad Potts netted a goal of the season contender.

Robbie Brady’s cross from the left was met by the flying wing back, quite literally, as he flung himself five feet into the air to meet the ball with a scissor kick beyond the ‘keeper.

The Lilywhites were determined to put things right on Saturday and the players themselves were the ones to bring it up, so they could put it right.

“It was brought up by a few of the players before today's game,” Lindsay said.

"That can help, it wasn't a great scoreline obviously, so it stick in your head. You just want to put it right and put it to bed.

"We all knew how hard it was to come here, every team in the league knows how hard it is. It's not an easy place to come but we came here with a plan and we executed it.

"We got the 1-0 and now it's back up the road. They threw the kitchen sink at it, as they say. They ended the game with four strikers on the pitch - we dealt with it.

"It's a bit weird because usually I have Jordan with a striker on him and Hughesy with a striker on him and I'm in the middle not doing much, but able to cover.

"I'm learning every day and getting better every day.

"Personally, I'm happy. Back in the team, grinding clean sheets out, everything is good. It was tough to get back in, every player is good in the changing room.

"It's the same in every team, you need to fight for your place and I've done that and need to keep doing that to push all the way.”

PNE had it all to do at Luton, a place that historically they do not travel well to, in 32 degree heat.

The home side had more of the chances in the game but it was instead the Lilywhites that secured their win at Kenilworth Road in 23 years.

PNE now move quickly into a game against Rotherham United on Tuesday night looking to make it three wins on the spin, and back to back league wins.

Lindsay said: "We worked for that one. The other two games I think we've been more on top.

"Three clean sheets in a row is good going, we just need to keep that up and try and get more wins.

"We're up and running now, we'd have liked to have won more games of course.

"To have won one of the first two games would have been ideal but that happens and we just need to keep going. You need momentum in this league.

"I think the Rotherham game next up is a good fixture for us to put in a performance and win another game, particularly at home.”
