Preston North End midfielder Jayson Molumby may have to be patient on return to Millwall

Molumby spent last season with the Lions, playing 40 times for them.

North End jumped ahead of Millwall in January to borrow the Irish midfielder from Brighton for the rest of the season.

However, with skipper Alan Browne moved back into midfield and Brad Potts brought in to play the No.10 role, Molumby has been on the bench for the last two games.

PNE boss Alex Neil has nevertheless been impressed with what the 21-year-old has brought to the squad .

Neil said: “Jayson has settled in fine, he’s performed well in the games he’s played.

“Unfortunately for him just recently we freshened it up a little bit, put Alan in midfield and Sepp van den Berg in at right-back.

“We have stumbled upon a bit of continuity and a bit of form, that is why Jayson has not featured for the last couple of games.

“He’ll be fine, Jayson is a good trainer, works really hard, he’s a good lad.

“He’s got good attributes and will get better and better with more experience.

“I think with Alan going back into midfield we’ve seen him bring a bit of know-how and solidity to that area.

“We’ve been quite loose off the flanks recently in terms of letting the wide lads be really quite aggressive with their starting positions.

“If you do that, you need to supplement the middle area by solidifying it.

“That is what we’ve chosen to do recently and we’ve had a couple of good results.”

Neil will be tempted to keep things unchanged this evening on the back of the 3-0 win over Huddersfield and the goalless draw with QPR.

Now they will be tested on their travels against a Millwall side who have drawn 16 times this season and only lost eight.

A big positive for Neil from the Huddersfield victory was Ched Evans’ display.

The striker had a hand in the first goal, scored the second and played a key pass in the build-up to the third.

Said Neil: “For me, Ched’s second-half performance was as good a No.9 display we’ve had in a long time.

“I think the last one in that bracket was Sean Maguire at Bournemouth in terms of what was offered up.

“Before that it would have been Emil Riis when he first arrived against Huddersfield and QPR when he was great.

“I’ve been pleased with all the new lads. Daniel Iversen has been magnificent, Sepp has been brilliant for the last two games at right-back, Ben Whiteman has settled well.

“Jayson and Anthony Gordon have been very good.”
