Teague wary of Bucks' fizz

Skipper Andy Teague says Chorley will be up for a battle when they travel to face relegation-threatened AFC Telford United on Saturday.

Telford lie 20th in the National League North table, just two points ahead of rock-bottom Hednesford Town.

The Bucks are scrapping for survival and produced a shock result by beating Alfreton Town 3-2 on Tuesday night.

That result saw Telford rise from the foot of the table and as the battle to beat the drop is so tight this season, Teague is wary of the threat posed by the Bucks’ survival instincts.

But Teague says Chorley are in the mood to get a result.

He said: “Everyone is confident going into the Tamworth game.

“They are fighting for their lives and they will throw everything at us but we will just have to be on our game.

“They had a really good result against Alfreton but we have only lost one of our last eight games and we are raring to go and we know what to expect.”

Chorley drew 1-1 with Gloucester City on Tuesday night.

Gloucester took the lead from the penalty spot after Teague was deemed to have fouled Bobbie Dale in the box after the Tigers player had flicked the ball up into the air.

The two players collided but Dale ended up worse off as he was caried off on a stretcher and taken to hospital to get stitches in his head.

Teague wished the City player a speedy recovery but believes a penalty should not have been awarded.

He said: “We both just jumped up for the ball and clashed heads. He had to go to hospital and we wish him well.

“In my opinion it was just a clash of heads, not a penalty. It was a 50/50 challenge.”

Billy Jones converted the spot-kick but Darren Stephenson levelled the scores three minutes later as he fired home his 14th of the campaign.

“We showed great character to come back, said Teague. “The first half was pretty even but I thought we dominated the second half and we could have gone on to win it.”

New signing Courtney Meppen-Walter came off the bench to make his Chorley debut against Gloucester.

And Teague says the defender did well in his 20-minute cameo. He said: “The manager says he has got a good pedigree – he did well.”
