A fantastic fourth for hardy Dan

On what was predicted tobe a horrendous weekend weather wise, only a few hardy Chorley Triathlon and Athletcis Club runners braved the violent hail storms in the South East Lancs Cross Country meet at Leigh.

Under-11s youngster Daniel Lilley set the club off in the first race of the day with a magnificent fourth place, and finishing within 20 seconds of the winner.

Then came a long wait for more Chorley representation until the last race where Daniel’s only support came from five senior athletes.

Jonathan Burgess was 63rd and Dave Kershaw 72nd and fourth V55, while Phil McCullagh (112th), Adrian Smith (113th) and Mike Coppin completed the quintet.

n Joe Duckworth has recieved confirmation from British Triathlon that he has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European ETU Long Course Triathlon Championships in the V45-49 category at Challenge Weymouth on

September 13.

This will be an Ironman distance event (2.4-mile

swim 112-mile bike and 26.2-mile run).

With this happening alongside trying to qualify for the World Championships again at Ironman Lanzarote in May, the year is looking pretty busy already for Joe.

n This Saturday sees the Northern Cross Country Championships taking place at Pontefract Racecourse, while there is the Ashurst Beacon (5.9) for those staying at home.
