A remarkable eighth-wicket partnership of 87 from youngsters Jake Meredith and Chris Pearson saw Euxton claim an away-day win against Barnoldswick.

The pair scored unbeaten knocks of 49 and 48 respectively as Euxton recovered from 100-7 to claim the points.

Pearson and Meredith are both products of Euxton’s fine junior set-up and they were certainly the heroes of the day for Andrew Winrow’s side.

Barnoldswick elected to bat and the runs they made were largely down to Kyle Marshall, who hit 56 off just 63

John Pickup also hit 37, while there was also 27 from John Hall as Barnoldswick posted a challenging 185-8 off 45 overs.

Overseas amateur Francois Haasbroek was the pick of the Euxton bowlers, taking 3-58 off 16 overs.

In reply, Mark Winrow (10) and Sam Tolley (19) put on 24 for the first wicket before the former.

But after losing Winrow, Euxton collapsed to 46-6.

Skipper Andrew Winrow came to the crease with his side in trouble and with help from Meredith, they took the score to 100-7.

After Andrew Winrow departed for 19, many may have thought Euxton were beaten.

But Pearson and Meredith had other ideas.

The two juniors batted superbly punishing a number of loose deliveries.

Pearson, who earlier took 1-21 with the ball, batted at a quick pace, his 48 coming off just 60 deliveries which included seven fours.

Meredith’s 49 came off 87 deliveries and he manoeuvred the ball around the ground well, pinching a number of singles.

The game entered its final over but the pair didn’t buckle under pressure and the winning runs were scored with two balls to spare.

This coming Saturday, Euxton host Edenfield and on the Sunday they take on Great Harwood.

Brinscall, who were without a fixture this weeknd, welcome Barnoldswick and then host Cherry Tree on Sunday.

n Euxton second XI lost by 45 runs to Clitheroe.
