Chorley squash star Laura Massaro’s hopes of British Open glory were dashed by France’s Camille Serme, who sealed a 3-1 win in the final in Hull.

The third-seeded Briton, who knocked out world number one Nicol David in the last four, could not find a repeat performance as she slipped to an 11-3 11-5 8-11 11-8 loss at the Airco Arena in 51 minutes.

Massaro had won the last three meetings between the pair.

But sixth-seeded Serme got off to a flying start and closed out the match to become the first Frenchwoman to win the event.
