Youngsters from Leyland Lions Junior Squash and Racketball Club took on their counterparts from Chorley’s David Lloyd Leisure Centre in a squash challenge.
It is the first time that two junior clubs have played a match in the local communities of Preston, Chorley and South Ribble.
The match was played at the David Lloyd Centre, which proved to be a closely-fought affair, with the Chorley outfit winning 5-3.
Leyland squash coach John Gibson said: “It proved to be a great occasion – not only did the kids enjoy it but also the many parents who came along to support both teams.
“I’d met up with Dave Abberley, who runs the junior squash club at David Lloyd in Chorley – where world No.1 Laura Massaro is a member.
“And together with Dave Scurlock, who coaches with me at Leyland Leisure Centre, we decided it was about time we set up an inter-club match to give the kids more opportunities of playing a great competitive sport.”
A return fixture is being arranged at Leyland early in the new year.
