A CHORLEY triathlete has kicked off her season in style with an opening day win in her first race in Canary Wharf
Katie Hewison (nee Ingram) has had a roller-coaster ride of emotions since she decided to become a triathlete back in 2009.
But now, the 26-year-old is hoping to be on the right road for success.
She said: “The Canary Wharf win was quite surreal as I did not expect to win the competition.
“I was as shocked as anyone about it because I was in the front of the pack.
“Also I was never far behind the main runners and kept with the pack.
“I was able to pull away against some of the more established runners in this category.
“This result was one of the best of my career because I have not really been doing triathlon since 2010 so to win is great.
“However winning the World Championships last year was one of the biggest things I have done.
“I am doing some events with my team in Paris and then everything is focussed on retaining my World title in September.
“I am just taking it one day at a time.
“I am training for 20 hours a week.”
