Majeed’s all-round show is not enough for Adlington

Adlington’s poor run of form continued as Blackrod cruised to a 47-run victory.

Pro Maj Majeed struck early removing Chris Sanderson before Blackrod professional Thusendra De Zoyza and Joe Proyle took the score to 91.

Player-coach Tom Foster claimed then claimed the prized wicket of De Zoyza for 36 but Zak Burton and George Tipping hit out to good effect to reach 184-9.

A flurry of late wickets saw Foster finish with 6-57 – Majeed had earlier taken 3-38.

The Adlington reply got off to a poor start as Liam Kane fell to the first ball.

In-form Foster was playing superbly, hitting the ball to all areas of the parkto reach 33 including five fours and one six before edging De Zoyza.

Majeed then hit 54 and with Steve Rawlinson kept Adlington in line fo victory.

But after Majeed was out, the young lower order had no answer to De Zoysa, including taking three wickets in one over, as Adlington plunged to 137 all out from 125-5.

The 2nd XI defeat Blackrod by six wickets. Eddie Haddon took 5-17 as Blackrod were bowled out for 84, and that total was reached inside 20 overs, with Mike Leyland top scoring with 21.

n Chorley St James slumped to a 68-run defeat against New Victoria in the Southport and District League.

New Victoria scored 179-9 off 50 overs, with Matt Higham taking 3-50 and Dave Bath 3-26.

In reply, the visitors were in tatters at 5-3 inside four overs before a stand of 78 from Sean Foster (58) and Steven McNally (27) gave hope.

But when the partnership was broken on 83-4, St James slumped again were bowled out for 111 in 27 overs.
