Just a fortnight after winning the squash’s Delaware Investments US Open, Chorley’s world No.3 Laura Massaro got her bid to win a second consecutive PSA World Series tournament off to a solid start by overcoming Egyptian teenager Menna Nasser 3-0 in the first round of the 2015 Qatar Classic in Doha.

Massaro was given a fresh reminder of just how tough the women’s tour is after watching top seeded World No.1 Raneem El Welily crash out at the first hurdle earlier in the day.

But the 31-year-old was assured as she commanded the court to progress to the second round courtesy of a professional straight-game victory.

The 2013 World Champion will now face compatriot Fiona Moverley in the second round after the 28-year-old qualifier from Hull upset the seedings to down Salma Hany Ibrahim, ranked 19 places higher in the world rankings, in her first-round match.

Having returned to competitive PSA World Tour action in 2014 after a four-year absence, Moverley showed signs that her talent – which previously took her into the world’s top 40 – remains intact as she prevented the Egyptian from utilising her attacking weapons.
