It was double delight for tennis players at Chorley as two mixed senior sides won their respected leagues.

The A team finished top of the Ribble Mixed League Division One while the B team won the Ribble Mixed League Division Two.

The Ribble Mixed League, stretches as far west as Lytham and as far north as Barton, with clubs from Clitheroe and Feniscowles also participating.

It is one of the most popular leagues in the region and most clubs field teams.

Delighted Chorley chairman Alan Gibson was over the moon at the achievements of the club.

He said: “We’re very pleased with this rare double triumph

“The club set itself a goal some years ago of winning the league and to achieve this goal, while also winning the second division is a magnificent effort.

“A big congratulations to both teams.”

The A team comprises Suzanne Cornthwaite, Sara Shingler, Yasmin Bennison, Tracey Russell, John Chatterley (captain), Simon Brewer, Ben Crichton and Roger Leigh

The successful B team are Sue Archibald (captain), Hannah Graber, Sarah Wright, Julia Bennison, Chris Walker, Ian McClelland, James Richardson and Ryan Berry.

The club fields five teams altogether in the Ribble Mixed League and three in the Bolton Men’s League.

It also fields junior teams and plays in autumn leagues.

Due to the excellent floodlights at the club, which is adjacent to Chorley Cricket Club, members can take to the court all year round.
