Single strike from Robb maintains unbeaten run

Penny Robb’s solitary strike sealed an important victory for Leyland and Chorley Ladies over Lancaster Nomads Ladies.

Robb was the hero for the second week running as her early strike ensured Leyland maintained their unbeaten run.

It was an electric start as Leyland took advantage of a poor Nomads push off.

Marie Meagher ran into the D, and Leyland were then awarded their first short.

Leyland fired two shots at goal but they failed to test the Nomads goalkeeper.

Nomads stormed up the pitch with the ball, but on hand was Helen Adams who tremendously blocked a powerful shot.

It was an even game, Eluned Smith defended well blocking a number of shots and then goalkeeper Alison Clewlow saw her crossbar rattled with a thunderous effort.

Leyland seemed to be up against their toughest test of the season, the Nomads’ defended with their backs against the wall.

Yasmin Bennison saw her shot saved by the ‘keeper,

Sarah Winstanley picked up the rebound and won a long corner.

After smart play from Leyland, the ball was worked into the D, Sarah King battled with a defender and played it past the front of the keeper for Robb to get her stick on the end of and sweep it back behind the keeper’s back.

Early in the second half Leyland continued to attack but the Nomads defence stood firm, Clewlow then saved well from a one-on-one.

Meagher then picked up the loose ball to find Paula Thornton in the D but the shot came to nothing, minutes later she shot wide from a short corner.

The Ladies saw the game out with little fuss to maintain their unbeaten run.

The Ladies second team lost 4-2 against Clitheroe and Blackburn Northern.

Lisa Evans and Vicki Pilkington were the scorers for the second team.
