Wilson slams in four as goals just keep flowing

Leyland and Chorley men’ continued their fine run of form as they brushed aside Preston fifths by thrashing them 14-0.

The lead extends their lead at the top of the Barrington Sports North West Hockey League Division Five North to 12 points.

The hosts showed no signs of rustiness after an extended winter break as Craig Wilson opened the scoring, firing an effort into the bottom right hand corner.

He doubled his and Leyland and Chorley’s lead just a minute later slotting calmly past the keeper.

James Gallacher then made it 3-0 as he dribbled his way into the D and smashed an unstoppable shot into the back of the net.

A quiet period saw Preston regroup and Leyland and Chorley missed a number of chances but as the half drew to an end, Wilson was the hat-trick hero as he tapped in at the back post.

But the scoring wasn’t finished as Andy Hey joined the party by tapping in at the back post to make it 5-0.

In the second half, hotshot Mark Collier grabbed his first of the game by slotting in.

And Collier got his second and Leyland and Chorley’s seventh as he followed up a Rahul Bamania strike.

James Bunyon got on the scoresheet on his return from injury before Collier grabbed his hat-trick after finishing well after the keeper could only parry the initial shot.

Nick Dunn scored the 10th of the match before Wilson grabbed his fourth to make it 11-0.

Gary Swann got in on the act making after pouncing on a loose ball to fire in the back of the net before Jon Willett slotted past the goalkeeper to make it 13-0.

Hey rounded off the scoring smashing the ball into the roof of the net and make it a fine day at the office.

n The men’s second team survived a Southport comeback by running out 4-3 winners.

Adrian Thornton tapped in from five yards out to give Leyland and Chorley the lead an early lead.

And it was Thornton who also made it 2-0 tapping in a Simon Myers cross.

After the break, Southport hit back with a goal of their own before Damien Kaighin restored Leyland and Chorley’s two-goal advantage.

Southport then bagged two goals to make it 3-3 before in the last-minute debutant Myers slammed the ball home to secure the win.

n The ladies first team continued their winning ways by defeating Lancaster 3-1.

Leyland and Chorley took the lead early on as link up play between Alison Rigby and Penny Robb saw Raelene Strickland have her effort saved but Nicola Wallbank was on hand to tap in the rebound.

Strickland made it 2-0 before Lancaster hit back to shock the away side.

But Strickland was the hero as she took advantage of excellent work from Rigby to make it 3-1 and seal the win.

n The ladies second team defeated Southport 4-2.

Michelle Alty opened the scoring before Vicky Pilkington made it 2-0.

The influential Sarah Maycock then made it 3-0.

Southport hit back when taking advantage of sloppy defending, but Maycock made it 4-1 just before half-time to extend the Leyland and Chorley lead.

Southport did bag a goal in the second half but Leyland held on to crown a fine afternoon for the club.
