It will be ladies first at Chorley Golf Club when it launches its own academy with free taster sessions aimed at attracting newcomers to the game.

And there will also be information on rules and etiquette and the opportunity to join club.

The 90 minute taster is on June 8 at 6.30pm and includes a tour of the club, learning the game’s basics during a mini coaching class, and a questions

and answers session.

Stage two offers group lessons over an eight week programme, starting on June 15, with each one lasting an hour and embracing the short and long

game overseen by the club’s former four-time European Ladies Tour winner Lora Fairclough.

And anyone signing up for the group programme will be offered private lessons by Lora on a one-to-one basis.

The final stage is a pathway to club membership which starts with a three month trial.

Meanwhile, each academy member will be assigned a mentor to guide them through the rules, etiquette and formats of play.

Steph Patterson, one of the organisers, said: “There’s no better sport for bringing people together with its winning combination of exercise, skill and social interaction. Golf is the perfect game for people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.”
