Chorley 29 Clitheroe 8

After a weekend off, Chorley were back in action against Clitheroe.

It was a real banana skin for Chorley as Clitheroe haven’t won since the opening day of the season.

Chorley set about their task with real gusto with half-breaks from Rob Melling and Ben Renton.

The Chorley pack were also doing their bit by winning the early scrums and putting Clitheroe on the back foot.

Chorley soon got points on the board, captain Simon Frost took a quick penalty then crashed over the line for the opening score.

Confidence grew and Chorley soon found themselves back under another penalty and another quick tap saw Mike Richardson barge through Clitheroe defence for the second try.

Chorley were dominating the half.

A break from Stu Harris sent Mike Richardson racing through who off loaded to Shane O’Sullivan to get the try.

Clitheroe’s only excursion into the Chorley half saw them kick a penalty to put three points on the board.

The second half saw Clitheroe come out fired up and really push the men from Chorley. However the defence held strong with try saving tackles from Andy Johns, Stu Harris and Adam Stubbs as play broke up.

However, Chorley’s pace began to tell another line break upfield saw them score in the corner.

Clitheroe to there credit never gave in and snatched a late try.

There were big performances from Mike Harwood and Rob Melling.
