Opportunity knocks for Chorley Panthers star Ethan
Ethan Fitzgerald, the current Chorley Panthers Under 14s' player of the year, has been offered two-year scholarships with both Widnes Vikings and Wigan Warriors.
And after much deliberation, he has opted to pursue a rugby career with Wigan Warriors.
Ethan joined Panthers at just four years old, and has gone from strength to strength.
Having previously played as a winger, he currently holds position as a full back and vice captain.
A club spokesman said: “We’re all so very proud of Ethan, and his scholarship is a true reflection of his skill, commitment and attitude to rugby.”
The Panthers U8s travelled to Pilkington Recs, and played out a draw, with both sides scoring 10 tries.
The Pilks scored in all but one set in the first half.
However, the visitors responded in kind, scoring in all but one set, with a notable try from powerhouse Evan Lewis-Guinness, using his pace to punch through and drag the defence over the line with him for his hat-trick.
Maddy Vaughan and Billy Gaynor also crossed in the first half to keep the scores level at five tries apiece.
After the break, Ethan Holmes scored his first of two, using a skilful side step to cross.
Aidan Tetlow made two amazing breaks only to be caught, but set up Bobby Breakwell and Holmes to score.
Further tries from Elliot Talbot and Daniel Dickinson helped secure the tie at 10 tries apiece.
Star player was Aidan Tetlow, most improved Ethan Holmes, and opposition star player Maddy Vaughan.
