What to watch out for as Preston North End host Reading

This is his third managerial post, having been in the hotseats at Derby County and Swansea. Prior to that he was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Chelsea, Real Madrid and Paris St Germain. Clement was reunited with Ancelotti at Bayern Munich between his spells at Derby and Swansea. His brother is Neil Clement who had a loan spell at PNE in 1999.

MEET THE REF: Darren Bond

The Wigan official will referee Preston’s Deepdale clash with Reading on Saturday. Last season Mr Bond took charge of three North End matches. The first was the 0-0 draw with Millwall a year ago, he was then in the middle for the 2-1 win at Bristol City. In March, he was in charge of North End’s 2-0 win over Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. This will be his seventh match of the current campaign – in the six to date he has shown 21 yellow cards and two red.

57 years ago: On September 13, 1961, Preston beat Aldershot 3-1 in the League Cup at Deepdale, Tommy Thompson scoring twice and Alex Alston getting the other.

48 years ago: Gerry Ingram netted a hat-trick as North End won 4-1 against Reading at Deepdale on September 12, 1970. David Wilson was also on target for Alan Ball’s men.

44 years ago: Bobby Charlton scored his first Preston goal as the manager pulled on his boots again, a year after retiring. Charlton and Tony Morley found the net in a 2-0 League Cup win over Sunderland on September 10, 1974.

24 years ago: North End won 3-2 against Gillingham at Priestfield on September 13, 1994. Mark Sale found the net twice in Kent, with Terry Fleming scoring the other.
