15:40 Leicester

Our first selection of the day runs in this competitive looking class four fillies nursery, with four of the six runners arriving on the back of recent wins. White Vin Jan bids for her fourth successive win, and despite being raised 20lbs since her first win she still looked comfortable in her last race. Although the winning margin was only a head, she was still over three lengths clear of the rest of the field which suggests she can grab another win before the handicapper catches up with her.

Park Glen has high hopes of landing her hat-trick and should go close despite a 6lb penalty for her latest win. However, both previous wins have come on either soft or good-to-soft ground and she finished twelve lengths behind the winner on her only previous attempt on good-to-firm ground.

Of the others, Bimbo should be more comfortable at todays’ level after dropping back down from group two company, and War Alert looks a determined filly, battling back to get up on the line on her last run, although is the only one of the six who is yet to win over todays’ distance.

Our second race of the day is a class five handicap, where Storm Rider is forecast as the market leader. He arrives here on the back of a recent victory at Windsor, beating Rowlestone Lass by almost two lengths. If he turns up here in the same form then he should be the one to beat, however he has only attempted todays’ race distance twice before and has had mixed fortunes, finishing first (as detailed above) and last, some forty lengths behind the winner. Saint Thomas is another to consider, a horse looking to go one better than two recent seconds over todays’ race distance. However, with only one win from thirteen attempts over twelve furlongs the stats suggest that he will once again have to settle for a place at best.

Our selection in this race is Royal Marskell. With a 100% strike rate over course and distance, he beat the aforementioned Saint Thomas by a head the last time they clashed and arrives in good form having won twice and placed once in his last five runs. He seems to save his best for this track and should be strong enough to finish in the places at the very least.

The final race today looks to be between the two market leaders. Decent Fella and Freddy With A Y both arrive on the back of respectable placed efforts in their last two runs and are similarly matched on best form. Decent Fella is proven over course and distance, but both recent placed efforts have been over shorter distances. He has won five times over todays’ race distance but most of these wins came earlier in his career, with just one win to note in nineteen attempts over seven furlongs in the last three years. Freddy With A Y has yet to taste victory over seven furlongs, having attempted the distance on four occasions. However on his penultimate start he finished ahead of Rough Courte over seven furlongs, a horse who has since gone on to win twice in quick succession, and on this form should have the edge in todays’ battle.

Of the remainder, Olney Lass is seen as a bit of a course specialist having won five times from seven attempts here at Brighton and cannot be discounted despite not recording a win for almost twelve months.
