There are few people in town who have not been to AJs and the club holds fond memories for many.

A statement issued on the Applejax Facebook page says: "After bringing you 30 unforgettable years of entertainment, new friendships and relationships, countless stories, marriages, divorces, foggy mornings, one night stands, walks of shame and even a few unplanned pregnancies, it is finally time for Chorley to bid farewell to Applejax Nightclub.

"With the passing of the legendary Kurt Smith, it seems almost fitting that Applejax, the nightclub he and his wife Andrea founded all those years ago, follow him into Chorley's memory where they will live on in all of the friendships and stories they were so well known for."

Kurt Smith, who lived in Charnock Richard, died aged 58 after he was struck by a train in Euxton on Sunday, November 6, 2016.

In announcing the closure of the nightclub the Smith family went on to thank all of the AJ family, past and present, for everything they had put into the club to make it such a success.

The statement continued: "To all of our patrons over the years, we thank you for all of your support and we hope you had as much fun as we did.

"We would like to invite you all to Applejax on May 27, for one last party, so we can give the memory of Kurt Smith and Applejax the final send off they both deserve!

"In his words, 'see you later kids'."

Although Applejax is shutting down, owners of Switch Nightclub in Preston are set to take over.
