The League of Splendid, lovers of the Steampunk genre of fashion and culture, will host ‘A Splendid Day Out’ at The Platform in the resort on Saturday and Sunday.

A Splendid Day Out is a family event with stalls selling Steampunk fashions, jewellery and accessories, plus free outdoor entertainment with Ichabod Steam and his Animatronic Band, carnivalesque drum group Deetbeats, fire eating, magic and much much more.

Inside, festival goers will find an artisan market, entertainment from The Palace of Curiosities including Marcus Island Mermaid and balladeer Ash Mandrake. One of the highlights is the tea duelling competition where the winner will go forward to the National Championship in September.

Tea duelling is a battle of manners and of essentially dunking biscuits in hot cups of tea.

On the Tiffin Master’s command of ‘dunk’, opponents lower their biscuit into the tea and hold it in the hot beverage. After five seconds, they raise their soggy biscuits and attempt to eat them before they crumble and drop – but who will be last to eat?

On Sunday morning they will meet at the Eric Morecambe Statue for a photo shoot and then, in their natty attire, will parade down the Promenade on their way to the Platform.
