Absolutely stuffed with all the usual treats of the festive season, Covid appropriate carols, lots of tiers, the baddies (left to audience interpretation) and a naughty sausage.

Pantomonium is just the right tonic to accompany the Christmas of isolation.

And if all the fun and frolics on a magical Grand Theatre stage was not enough, the cast includes an adorable monkey by the name Manky, a winner with the children with his sidekick Britain's third most talented person Steve Royle.

No stone is left unturned in panto magic as Prince Charmless arrives in the village on a search for adventure, given there has been very little to do, to find the dastardly KillJoy has kidnapped the 'Fairy Tales' in a bid to get his hands on her magical book of pantomimes.

Should the book be destroyed, the nations history of pantomime will be lost forever.

The drama in an empty theatre is captivating and the energy is high from beginning to end in this hour long production with just four actors and six characters. And a big cheer for the dancers who even managed to dial in via Zoom.

I've said many times through the year, how at times we have all been living one long comedy sketch, but Pantomonium is one well executed script by the award winning Jon Monie, who has made some of the harder times of 2020 a little brighter as we near the final few days.

And he has found his perfect crew in West End actor Tom Lister, and Grand Theatre regulars TVs Milkshake! host Olivia Birchenough and this year’s Dame EastEnders Nick Wilton, who all do their very best to showcase what a 'happy place' theatre can be, even when its empty.

The whole production once again has been ably supported by producer Martin Dodd of UK Productions and the stream is £25 and promises many, many smiles before January 31.

Whether to fill the doldrums of the post Christmas days or as a big night in for all the family for New Years Eve, settle down, grab some food, sweets for the kids, get ready to boo in the comfort of your own home and enjoy all the mayhem and cheer of pantomime, albeit this year a little differently.

Join the Grand Theatre team for a riotous romp through pantomime and purchase your Digital Pass here for just £25.50 per household.

Watch as many times as you like until the 31 January 2021.
