Punk legends pull festival date

Original American punk legends Fear have been forced to withdraw from this year's Rebellion Festival at the Winter Gardens.

The band, who were among the first wave of hardcore bands in 1977 were due to play the festival’s main stage.

However organisers have revealed the band have pulled all their european dates after singer, and only original member, Lee Ving had to undergo spinal surgery.

A spokesman for Rebellion said: “They will be over next year so we’re on the case to make them an early booking but still very disappointed that they won’t make our anniversary year.”

A spokesman for the band added: “ Lee Ving has been advised by doctors that it is still too soon to resume full touring activities, after undergoing spinal surgery earlier this year.

“Lee profusely apologises for any inconveniences caused, but he does want everyone to know that he is on the road to a full recovery, and that he and Fear plan on visiting Europe next year.”

Now Rebellion are on the lookout for a replacement act for the festival which takes place on August 4-7 and attracts punks from all over the world. This year’s 20th anniversary show is headlined by The Damned.
