The Dukes is hosting the headline act at this year’s Lancaster Jazz Festival on September 21.

The Neil Cowley Trio, who currently hold the title of Jazz FM Artist of the Year, is not your typical jazz trio.

Neil has done stints with many pop and soul artists, including the Brand New Heavies and Adele.

He is a dazzling composer and pianist who creates dynamic music with powerful rip-roaring riffs. It’s an accessible sound with some serious grooves.

The Neil Cowley Trio play in The Round at The Dukes and tickets cost £8 for upstairs seating, £10 downstairs and £13 for cabaret seating. To book, ring The Dukes box office on 01524 598500 or visit

The Dukes is also hosting the day-long Jazz Festival Symposium on September 20.

Thinking with Jazz will feature talks to consider the role of festivals within the local economy, and a workshop to explore the practical aspects of developing and managing music festivals.

Speakers include John Cumming (Director, London Jazz Festival); Gerry Godley (Director, Five Points Festival, Dublin); Fiona Talkington (broadcaster, BBC Radio 3); and Professor Tim Wall (Birmingham City University).

The symposium is free but early registration is required. Ring The Dukes box office on 01524 598500.
