The Grand Theatre in Blackpool launches its main summer show next Monday, a celebration of the legendary music of Hollywood’s golden era, Puttin’ On The Ritz, which stars Strictly Come Dancing’s Katya Virshilas and Jared Murillo.
Together with a cast of West End performers the show recreates classic songs live on stage with glamorous costumes and, naturally, impeccable ballroom dancing skills.
With music from legendary composers Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Irving Berlin, songs include Cheek to Cheek, Alexander’s Rag Time Band, Birth of the Blues, Swanee, Night and Day, I Got Rhythm, Easter Parade, and of course Puttin’ On The Ritz.
The production broke box office records when it first toured last year.
Katya Virshilas was the youngest-ever British Columbian Latin Dance Champion at the age of 16.
She co-choreographed, trained and danced in the iconic Tango sequence from Take the Lead with Antonio Banderas and has choreographed on two seasons of BBC1’s So You Think You Can Dance.
She appeared in three series of Strictly and has also been in TV shows Supernatural, Smallville and The Guard.
Jared Murillo is an American national and world ballroom dance champion who won the US Open Swing Youth Championships at the age of 21. His screen credits include High School Musical films and TV’s Glee. Jared was also a popular professional dancer on Strictly.
The show runs until August 29.
